Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with Italian investor Carlo Arturo Garuzzo, specialized in the production of renewable energy. Attending the meeting was Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Valeria Biagiotti.      In the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister said that the attraction of investments in the country’s modernization and the creation of jobs represented a priority for the cabinet. Chicu gave assurances that the investors would be backed at all stages of creation and management of the business.   The Italian ambassador introduced Carlo Arturo Garuzzo as a relevant Italian investor, noting that the Embassy of Italy would support him in all projects initiated in Moldova.   Carlo Arturo Garuzzo presented his company, specialized in the construction and management of parks of solar panels, as a group with branches in Italy, the United Kingdom and Turkey and recently in Moldova as well. In 2018, the company set into operation the biggest park of solar panels in Moldova and presently it is one of the biggest producers of renewable energy. The investor described Moldova as a country fit for the production of solar energy and informed the prime minister about his intention to considerably extend the business in the region. The investor also highlighted the intention to educate needed specialists in engineering on the platform of the Moldovan Technical University.   The Prime Minister thanked the Italian investor for the courage to invest in Moldova, despite the knowledge about current dysfunctions, and assured him of full support.     „We will discuss with the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry and other competent public authorities, in order to remove the obstacles to the edification and development of your investment initiatives,” the prime minister said.

Czech Republic, Moldova to boost bilateral cooperation

Prime Minister Ion Chicu today met Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Moldova Zdeněk Krejcí. The officials tackled subjects on the Moldovan-Czech relations in a wide spectrum of sectors.     The Prime Minister referred to the cabinet’s priorities, among which: justice reform, investments’ attraction, infrastructure’s modernization, Association Agreement with the European Union.    „We speak out for the boosting of the bilateral cooperation and maintaining a constructive dialogue with Moldova’s partners,” Ion Chicu said.   Ambassador Zdeněk Krejcí stressed that the Czech Republic would continue backing Moldova’s European integration and the country’s modernization, meant to enhance the people’s well-being.     Prime Minister Chicu and Ambassador Zdeněk Krejcí showed determination to foster the bilateral communication and collaboration.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu today chaired the first meeting of the Governmental Commission for European Integration from the current cabinet.   In the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister said that the Commission had not been summoned for a long time. “The fact that it is not known when the last meeting of the Commission took place speaks about a lot of things. We must resuscitate the process of implementation of the actions provided for in the Association Agreement with EU,” the prime minister said. He confirmed the cabinet’s determination to boost Moldova’s European integration.   The participants in the meeting discussed priorities of the Moldova-EU dialogue for the next year and concrete actions due to be carried out on this dimension. The Commission members assessed the stage of implementation of the action plan for the carrying out of the Association Agreement with EU for 2017-2019.     The Prime Minister was informed including about the level of implementation of the conditionalities assumed by the government, in order to benefit from EU’s macro-financial assistance, as well as the actions undertaken to remedy the deficiencies found out by EU in the aviation sector.     In the context, decision-makers of the competent ministries informed the prime minister about the debts recorded in these fields. Among the major debts mentioned, the participants in the meeting tackled the reform of the Superior Council of Magistracy, amendments to the Customs Code and the implementation of the Third Energy Package.     In the end, the prime minister asked to foster the work of the Commission for European Integration, including at the sectoral level.

Moldovan cabinet signs financial arrangement with top European bank

Prime Minister Ion Chicu and Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Matteo Patrone today signed a financial arrangement worth 50 million dollars. The arrangement will allow purchasing natural gas for the supply of the entire territory of Moldova during one month, in case of emergency situation.   „The arrangement signed today is a test of the good relations between Moldova and EBRD. We resorted to this mechanism, in order to complete the set of alternative solutions of supply with natural gas of Moldova’s consumers, in case of emergency situations, which do not depend on the government’s decisions. We are grateful to EBRD for this good help offered friendly and I am absolutely sure that the number of projects carried out in Moldova with EBRD’s support, as well as other foreign partners will increase on the next period,” Ion Chicu said.      The Prime Minister said that he further relied on the traditional means of delivery of gas with transit through Ukraine. “We count on the fact that the two sides, Russia and Ukraine, will reach common mind and Moldova will receive natural gas at a more advantageous price,” the Moldovan official said.   For his part, Matteo Patrone said that “the financial mechanism on which we agreed today is a one more proof of EBRD’s commitment for Moldova. The latter combines, exemplarily, what EBRD means and what can we provide to Moldova and its people. This is just the definition of a “friend in need.”   The EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Matteo Patrone also said that the participants in a today’s meeting of the EBRD Board had discussed including the co-financing of the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.     The financial arrangement signed today sees that Moldova commits to reform the gas sector, such as the elaboration of the secondary legislation on the liberalization of the natural gas market and diversification of the supply sources.
