Government determined to provide stability, predictability to investors in Moldova

Prime Minister Ion Chicu today exchanged opinions with the Members of the Association of Romanian Investors (AIR) on the present state of the development of business in Moldova, difficulties faced, as well as prospects for future.   The prime minister thanked for good cooperation with AIR, noting that Romania was one of the main trade partners of Moldova, with the turnover reaching more than two billion dollars in 2018.   „We must continue extending the bilateral commerce and we appreciate a lot the fact that, due to Romania, Moldova is closer connected to the European market. The government of Moldova is consolidated on the European integration way. We are consistent in ensuring stability and predictability for investors in Moldova,” Ion Chicu said.        At the meeting, the AIR members unveiled more initiatives which can be implemented in Moldova and which will contribute to developing the business environment. Among them, there are the extension of the guarantee funds for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), inventorying the infrastructure in 100 settlements of Moldova, in order to turn to good account the resources in these regions, as well as Moldova’s inclusion into a tourist route, jointly with Romania and Ukraine, in order to attract tourists from Asia. “We assure you that you will find a dialogue partner in us and we will dearly assist Moldova in the sectors dealing with the country’s economic development,” the AIR deputy president, Oana-Mihaela Motoi, said.      The Prime Minister welcomed the initiatives and confirmed the cabinet’s openness, especially of the competent institutions, for the evaluation of each project separately and ensuring the needed process for their implementation.   The AIR representatives noted also some recommendations for the government, in order to facilitate the development of business in the region. They highlighted the necessity to provide investors with a sufficient number of working staff, strengthen the judicial system, adjust the native legislation to the European one as regards the directives of the value added tax.     In another context, the prime minister said that he would ask for boosting the dialogue on the platform of the Moldovan-Romanian inter-governmental commission.

Prime Minister summons meeting focused on opportunities of airport infrastructure's development

Prime Minister Ion Chicu on 29 November summoned a meeting meant to identify opportunities of developing the airport infrastructure in Moldova. Attending the event were Economics and Infrastructure Minister Anatol Usatii, Defence Minister Victor Gaiciuc, as well as a group of experts in the sector.   The Prime Minister stressed that the existence of a single international airport in Moldova represented a monopoly element. Chicu also said that the development of new international airports would create conditions of competitiveness in the field, will give passengers possibility to choose and, as a result, will prompt the diminution of the tariffs for tickets and aviation services.     In the end of the meeting, the prime minister specified that the decision on developing the airport infrastructure in Moldova would be taken only after the carrying out of a feasibility study, due to unveil the economic reasons. At the same time, the PM asked to set up a working group led by Anatol Usatii, which will identify ways of implementing the concerned feasibility study. 

Agricultural sector to be modernised, technological in Moldova

Prime Minister, Ion Chicu, has expressed the respect and high appreciation for the work and dedication of agricultural workers, during a festive ceremony organised on Saturday, 30 November, on the occasion of the Day of the agricultural worker and manufacturing industry.   “For me agriculture has a ground definition – it is the field, which deals with the work of the land for the purpose of producing food. No matter how far science has gone, man remains fully dependent on what the fields produce – and you are the ones which bring bread to our tables. A fact for which we thank you from the soul!”.   According to data, an amount of 30 per cent of population of Moldova activates in agricultural sector, which produces about 12 per cent of GDP. In this context, PM has said that the Government will focus upon modernisation and technologicalisation of agricultural field, including implementation of projects attracting young persons in agriculture and develop new goods.   The Premier has confirmed that Executive has the objective of restoring the confidence of citizens in state institutions, including in development of national economy, where the agricultural sector plays a very important role. And the current model focused on the field sale of primary agricultural production, is outdated and does not generate surplus value for farmers, so PM has said that these processes need to be modernised.   The day of the agricultural worker and the processing industry has reached the 25th anniversary in 2019. The event was attended by the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, MPs, representatives of diplomatic missions, but also development partners.

Prime Minister participates in opening of factory producing LED lighting sources

Prime Minister, Ion Chicu, has participated on Saturday, 30 November, at inauguration of a new factory in Chisinau, producing LED lighting sources, with a total area of ​​6,500 m2. For the start, the contractor has employed 50 employees, but expecting to offer over 300 jobs.   Prime Minister has congratulated the entrepreneur and said that he is pleased to participate in events that contribute to the development of the economy of Moldova. He has assured that the Government will create all the needed conditions to support business people.   "Increasing the efficiency of economic activities is the basic concern of the Executive. I should like to thank the entrepreneurs for their courage, work and confidence that there can be developed business in Moldova, its economy can be boosted, while the confidence of the citizens increased in tomorrow. I anchor all my strength in the name of this desire – Moldova will be reborn, strengthened and there will increase the confidence of the citizens in tomorrow!”.   The Premier has also thanked the external partners which supported the opening of LuminaLED factory. So far, it has been invested an amount of MDL 36 mln in the project, but the total amount of investments is estimated at €03 mln.   So far, the factory has established reliable partnerships with more partners in EU, Italy, Poland, Romania. The company will produce LED bulbs, tubes and panels, the products being designed and developed in its own Research and Design Department of the factory, in accordance with all EU rules and standards.

Prime Minister, Ion Chicu, has participated, on Sunday, 01 December, with the residents of Soroca city to in the inauguration of the Christmas tree in Piata Libertatii (Square of Freedom).   In his message addressed to all the citizens of Moldova from this fortress – city, symbol of the rebirth of Moldovan people, Prime Minister has mentioned: "I send you peace of mind, good will and confidence in tomorrow. We are a country and a people, and together we shall carefully and lovingly rebuild Moldova."   Further, in his appeal, the Premier has urged the inhabitants of Soroca, and all citizens of Moldova to step confidently into 2020.   Located in Soroca, the Prime Minister has also had a meeting with the authorities of local public administration (APL). The Chief Executive has exchanged views with representatives of APL and assured them of all the support of existing Government in solving the issues they are facing at the local level.       

At least 19 killed and 21 injured in Russia's bus crash
